Caught in the Web

January/February 2010

The advent of the Blog means that almost anyone can be an astrological writer and indeed it seems that almost everybody is trying his or her hand at blogging these days. Of course some do it far better than others and it is some of these better bloggers that I've searched out for you in this issue. Some will give you food for thought as the comment on current affairs or their insights into the natal chart, others will brighten your day with a bit of astrological humour

One of the more popular Blogs on the Internet is Nina Gryphon's traditional astrology blog. Nina's articles include world events, celebrity charts and weather forecasts to name a few. Other gems on this site include astrologer interviews, book reviews and a beginners section entitled Astrology 101You can easily while away an hour or two reading Nina's blog.

Elizabeth Hathaway writes an excellent Blog with articles in both Dutch and English. Scroll down her home page and you can see a selection of Elizabeth's latest articles in both languages. If, like me, you don't read Dutch then the English language articles can be found here: http://astrologie.blogo.nl/category/astrology-english
You'll see that the articles have some astute comments on stories currently in the news. The articles are just the right length for reading on the web, long enough to be informative yet short enough not to cause eye strain, makes me wish I did read Dutch so that I could read all of Elizabeth's articles. http://astrologie.blogo.nl

Most of the astrologers I know have a terrific sense of humour, maybe it's because we work closely with planets such as mercury the trickster. So where do astrologers go for a giggle? To Alex Trenoworth's blog, or so reads her by-line. Alex comments irreverently on her life and the world of astrology and astrologers. She usually manages to squeeze in a joke or two along the way. So if you want to have a giggle then pay Alex's blog a visit

One of the funniest Blogs I've read for a long time is that by the 'Distracted Astrologer.' The anonymous astrologer* who writes this blog has a fantastic sense of humour, I find it hilarious and often find myself getting distracted by it. It's a different take on sun sign astrology but as this astrologer says herself "Sun sign astrology is just using the offcuts of the other stuff; I can't abide waste." Have a read, it's just the thing to brighten up a gloomy winter's day
*Not so anonymous any more. The distracted astrologer is Gin Ford-Williams

And finally a word about Twitter. Many people have asked me what Twitter is. Twitter is what is known as a micro-blogging site where users send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters. So can astrologers put their point s across in such a short message? I’m sure some do, though often by linking back to their websites. Be aware though that as with Blogs, some people tweet far better than others plus there are an awful lot of tweeters who want to sell you their wares. As I find good tweets I shall mark them for review in a future issue. http://twitter.com/
